The process:

  • To create a finished glazed piece of pottery on the wheel, you’ll need 3 visits.
  • First is the throwing of the pot, then turning the base once it’s dried out a bit, and finally, once the pots have been biscuit fired, you can return to glaze them.
  • If you can only manage 2 visits, we can turn the base on the pots for you at ÂŁ7.50 per pot, and you can return to glaze them.
  • If you can only manage 1 visit, you can throw the pot and tell us what colour glaze you want them. We can finish them from there (turning and glazing) for an extra cost.
  • If you don’t want to keep the pots, that’s fine, you can enjoy a one-off pot-throwing experience.
  • You’re welcome to decide if you’d like the follow-up sessions after the first session is finished.
  • Most people have a 2-hour session, which gives enough time to throw 2 – 4 pots.  The bare minimum is 1 hour, but we can’t guarantee a successful pot in that amount of time.
  • You’ll need at least a few days between the first and second visit to allow for sufficient drying time between throwing and turning. The timing of the third visit depends on when we get enough pieces in the kiln to do a biscuit firing. We do them fairly often so shouldn’t be too long.

Pricing

  • 1 person ÂŁ30 per hour
  • 2 people ÂŁ20 per hour per person (total ÂŁ40 per hour)
  • 3 – 5 people ÂŁ15 per hour per person (total ÂŁ45 – ÂŁ75 per hour)
  • If you’d like the pots to be fired so you can complete the whole process, we charge an amount for any pieces you decide to have fired calculated by weight. This covers materials such as clay and glaze, as well as firing costs in the kiln. Usually costs are around ÂŁ6 – ÂŁ10 for an average sized mug or bowl (approx 2p per gram)
